Committee for Children
Educational Designer
Marisa Garcia is an Educational Designer with Committee for Children, a Seattle-based nonprofit that advocates for, researches, and develops educational programs to advance the safety and well-being of children through social-emotional learning (SEL). She works with other educational designers and researchers to create research-based programs that help students manage their emotions, form healthy relationships, make good decisions, and cope with everyday social and academic challenges so that they’re better equipped to succeed in and out of school. Currently, Marisa is on the Out-of-School Time (OST) team within the Second Step family of programs; this team is working closely with practitioners in OST settings to create a program that fosters positive relationships, cultivates safe and supportive environments, and teaches self-regulation and social skills in developmentally and culturally-appropriate ways. Marisa’s experience includes the creation of curricula for SEL, STEM, and Literacy for grades preK-8 in both in-school and OST settings. Marisa is a former kindergarten teacher with Boston Public Schools and received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Wheelock College, Boston, and M.Ed in Elementary Education from the Boston Teacher Residency.
