Amber Martin-Jahn

Serve Washington
Executive Director
Amber joined Serve Washington as its executive director in February 2018. Working hand-in-hand with members of the governor-appointed commission, she and her team work to advance national service, volunteerism and civic engagement to improve lives, expand opportunity to meet local needs and strengthen community capacity.
Using her volunteer and professional experience, Amber leads Serve Washington to support organizations across Washington as they deploy service as a strategy to meet community needs. Amber came to Washington from the Nevada Commission, Nevada Volunteers, where she served as the executive director since October 2013. Amber earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, and completed her Master’s degree in Social Work in 2002, all from the University of Nevada, Reno. Her academic background and experience as a social worker provide her with a unique systems perspective as Washington looks at how service can change communities and change lives.
Amber currently serves as the Chair of the American Association of State Service Commission (ASC), a non-partisan, nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance national service and volunteerism through the national network of state service commissions.
She and her husband spend their spare time raising their birth children, a boy and girl, both elementary school age and supporting their foster son who recently embarked on independent living. Their family also includes two dogs.
