Start the day of with a dose of nature with an awakening walk along Lake Washington’s scenic south shore via Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park. This 2.5 mile guided walk will begin with a stroll through Bird Island, a sanctuary to a number of wildlife species, including a variety of migrating water fowl and the juvenile Chinook salmon who enter Lake Washington from the Cedar River. We will then head out over the water on three different “waterwalks” offering 360 degree views of the lake and surrounding natural areas. We will then continue past the Renton Sailing Center to the North Gate where we will begin the return trip. This leisurely adventure also includes plant species identification placards along the entire route (for all you botanically minded individuals). Experienced outdoor and environmental educators will be your guides, answering your outdoor programming questions along the way.
Warm athletic clothing and a rain jacket are highly recommended. Expected duration: about 1 hour. Walk begins at 6:10am sharp.
